What to expect from lymphatic drainage

Manual lymphatic drainage prior to surgery will assist with eliminating toxins from the body and boost the immune system. This prepares the body to handle the swelling, bruising, and scarring that normally takes place after surgery. Pre-surgery MLD significantly minimizes the risk of post-surgical complications.

* It is recommended to receive MLD 1 week prior to surgery.

Surgery will cause pain, swelling, fatigue, bruising, and water retention. These are all common side effects of any procedure.  Post-surgical MLD will:

Facial Lymphatic Drainage (FLD) is a type of massage that uses soft and slow movements that are directed to the lymph nodes to remove toxins and waste.  Benefits of FLD :

Complete Decongestive therapy (CDT) is used to effectively treat lymphedema, lipedema, and wounds. 

CDT consists of several components to improve lymphatic flow, reduce girth size, and improve skin integrity. 

CDT treatment consists of :

• Patient and family education
• Skin care education
• Measurements of limb volumes
• MLD
• Compression bandaging
• Compression garment recommendations
• Customize maintenance program

The first visit requires additional time to develop a customized care plan (up to 90 mins).  If this is your first session with us, this is the option you must choose. The following visits are 60 mins.

After receiving MLD you may experience mild side effects such as:

• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Fatigue
• Dizziness
• Increased urination

* To minimize these effects, hydrate before and afterward.
